Blur It

Face Mosaic & Video

Privacy Policy

Blur It is a privacy tool, so the policy is short and blunt: your photos and videos never leave your device, and we never see them.

Last updated: October 1, 2026

1Permissions We Request

Device Access

  • • Photo Library (read) — to import the photos and videos you choose to edit
  • • Photo Library (add) — to save your protected copy back to your library
  • • Camera — optional, only if you capture a photo or video directly in the app
  • • Notifications — optional, only if you turn on the reminder to cover faces before posting

These permissions are used only while you are actively importing, editing, or saving. Blur It does not access your library, camera, or media in the background, and it never scans your library on its own.

2Everything Happens On Your Device

100% on-device processing

Face detection runs through Apple's on-device Vision framework, and the blur, pixelate, mosaic, bloom, and emoji effects are rendered locally with Core Image and Metal. Your media is never uploaded to any server. The editor works fully in airplane mode. The app's only network use is Apple's StoreKit, which verifies a Blur It Pro purchase, and — in the free version — Google AdMob, which loads ads. Neither ever touches your photos or videos.

Your original photo or video is never modified. Blur It writes a new, protected copy to your own photo library, and the original stays exactly as it was.

Drafts of your edits (which faces you selected and which effects you applied) are stored locally in the app's private sandbox so your work survives a crash. Deleting the app removes them.

3Face Detection Is Not Face Recognition

No identity, no faceprints

Blur It detects where a face is in the frame so it can cover it. It does not identify anyone, does not build a faceprint or biometric template, and does not match faces against any database. The tracking IDs it uses (“Person 1”, “Person 2”) exist only for the duration of that one edit and are discarded with the draft.

No facial data of any kind is stored, transmitted, or shared.

4Information We Collect

Technical Information

  • • Device type and OS version
  • • App version and settings
  • • Crash reports and error logs
  • • Whether Blur It Pro is unlocked (stored on device)

What We Do NOT Collect

  • • Your photos or videos
  • • Any facial or biometric data
  • • Your name, email, or account
  • • Your contacts or precise (GPS) location
  • • Your payment or card details

Blur It has no account system and no login. The technical information above is limited to what is needed to keep the app stable. If you use the free version, the Google AdMob SDK also collects some device and usage data to show ads — see Section 6.

5Purchases

Blur It is free to download. It offers one optional in-app purchase — Blur It Pro, a one-time US$4.99 unlock that removes the daily export limit and all ads. It is not a subscription and does not renew.

We never see your payment details

The purchase is processed end to end by Apple through the App Store using Apple's StoreKit. Your card number, billing address, and Apple ID are handled by Apple and are never sent to us or stored by us. All we ever learn is whether this device holds a valid Blur It Pro entitlement.

What the app stores about your purchase

  • A local flag recording whether Blur It Pro is unlocked on this device
  • A local count of exports used today, kept only so the free tier's daily limit can reset — it is not sent anywhere
  • The App Store transaction receipt, which is issued and validated by Apple

All three live in the app's private sandbox on your device and are removed when you delete the App. None of them is linked to your identity, and none is combined with your media.

Restoring a purchase

Restore Purchases asks Apple whether the Apple ID signed in on the device already owns Blur It Pro. That check goes to Apple, not to us, and carries no photos, videos, or personal information from the App.

Purchasing does not change how your media is handled

Free or Pro, all detection and rendering still runs entirely on your device, and your photos and videos are still never uploaded. Apple's handling of your purchase is covered by the Apple Privacy Policy.

6Third-Party Services

Blur It uses as few third parties as possible:

Apple App Store

  • • App distribution & updates
  • • In-app purchase & receipt validation
  • • Optional crash reporting via Apple

Apple On-Device Frameworks

  • • Vision — face detection
  • • Core Image / Metal — rendering
  • • These run locally, offline

Advertising in the free version — Google AdMob

The free version of Blur It shows banner ads served by Google AdMob. To deliver, measure and limit fraud on those ads, the AdMob SDK may collect and send to Google:

  • • Device identifiers, such as the identifier for vendors and — only if you allow tracking — the advertising identifier (IDFA)
  • • Approximate location derived from your IP address
  • • Ad interactions (impressions and taps) and basic app usage
  • • Diagnostic information such as device model, OS version and crash data from the SDK

Your photos, videos and any face data are never shared with Google or any other ad provider — they never leave your device. Blur It Pro removes ads entirely, and the ads SDK is not started for Pro users.

Google's use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy. Apple's services have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.

7Data Sharing and Disclosure

Our Commitment:

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we never share your media with anyone. We could not hand over your photos or videos even if we were asked to — we never receive them in the first place. The only data that leaves the App is the advertising data the Google AdMob SDK collects in the free version, described in Section 6.

We may disclose limited technical information only:

  • To comply with legal obligations or valid court orders
  • To protect our rights and prevent fraud or abuse
  • With service providers strictly to operate the app, including Google AdMob for ads in the free version

8Your Rights and Choices

You Control

  • • Grant or revoke photos/camera access
  • • Grant or revoke notification permission
  • • Delete any draft or exported file
  • • Uninstall the app at any time

Privacy Settings

  • • Manage permissions in iOS Settings
  • • Use “Selected Photos” instead of full access
  • • Turn the daily reminder off at any time

You can revoke any permission at any time in your device's system settings. Blur It needs read access to import media and add access to save your protected copy; without them the app cannot do its job.

9Children's Privacy

Blur It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app is often used to protect children's faces — that processing happens entirely on the parent's device and produces no data for us.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can address it.

10Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date, and where appropriate, noted in the app.

Your continued use of Blur It after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
