Privacy Policy
Xie Chinese is a writing app. The strokes you draw and the progress you build are yours, they stay on your device, and no account is required to use the app.
1No Account, No Sign-Up
You can practise without telling us who you are
Xie Chinese does not ask you to create an account, and it does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or date of birth in order to work. You open the app and write.
You only share an email address with us if you choose to write to us — for example to report a character we graded wrongly.
2Your Practice Data Stays On Your Device
What the app stores locally
- • Which characters you have practised, and which ones you got wrong
- • Stroke accuracy, session length, and your day streak
- • Your chosen HSK level, program, and app settings
- • Whether Xie Chinese Pro is active on this device
This record is what lets the app fade the model at the right pace and bring a character back for review at the right time. It is stored in the app's private storage on your device.
Deleting the app removes it. We cannot restore it for you, because we never had a copy.
3The Strokes You Draw
Handwriting is graded on your device
Each stroke is compared against the reference stroke for that character on your device, as you draw it. Your handwriting is not a signature sample, it is not linked to your identity, and it is not used to identify you.
There is one exception, and it is always your choice: if you report a character you believe was graded wrongly, the report may include the stroke data for that one attempt. That is what lets us reproduce the mistake and fix the grader. We use it for that purpose and nothing else.
If you would rather not send stroke data, describe the problem in your own words instead — write to us at davaco.app@gmail.com and we will work from your description.
4Permissions We Request
Device access
- • Notifications — optional, and only if you turn on the daily practice reminder
- • Files / Share sheet — only when you export a PDF workbook, to save or send the file you asked for
Xie Chinese does not request your camera, microphone, contacts, location, or photo library. You can change or revoke notification permission at any time in iOS Settings.
5Information We Collect
Technical information
- • Device model and OS version
- • App version and settings
- • Crash reports and error logs
- • Anonymous, aggregated usage of app features
What we never collect
- • Your name, address, or phone number
- • Contacts, location, or photos
- • Payment card details
- • Anything that identifies you personally
Technical information is used to keep the app stable and to understand which parts of it people actually use. It is not tied to a personal identity, and it is not sold or used for advertising.
6Subscriptions and Purchases
Xie Chinese Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through the Apple App Store. Apple processes the payment, holds your billing details, and manages the renewal. We never see or store your payment card.
The app receives a receipt from Apple's StoreKit confirming that a subscription is active, and stores that status on your device so it knows what to unlock. Restoring a purchase on a new device asks Apple, not us.
Apple's handling of your purchase is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.
7Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your data
We do not sell, rent, or trade any information to anyone. We do not run advertising in Xie Chinese, and we do not share your practice history with third parties.
The only parties involved at all are Apple, for app distribution, crash reporting, and subscription billing, and the email provider that carries a message you choose to send us. We may disclose information if required to do so by law.
8Your Rights and Choices

- • Delete the app to remove all local data

- • Ask what a report you sent contained
- • Ask us to delete a report you sent
- • Ask a question about this policy

9Children's Privacy
Xie Chinese is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app is safe for a younger learner to use — it requires no account and collects no personal details — but a purchase should always be made by a parent or guardian.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can address it.
10Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date, and where appropriate, noted in the app.
Your continued use of Xie Chinese after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
